| | If you had the power or money to change one thing around you, what would it be, and why? Posted: Jun 10, 2008, 3:30 AM EST | If I had money, I would use it for a friends mum who is too old (by the Australian government standards) to qualify for a bone marrow transplant that would fix her condition, but instead she has to have daily doses of chemotherapy for the rest of her life. The side effects are worse than her condition, which would be completely cured with one transplant. It pisses me off the injustice that a 69 years old who has worked all her life and paid taxes has to spent the rest of her life enduring the terrible effects of medication. As if there is not enough hardship that goes with aging, but also to endure needlessly a condition that could be fixed, but wont be because you are not deemed to be a cost-effective member of society.

I am older generation so thats my take on it al? If I cannot afford it I wont buy it.
That's a great attitude to have towards money, cutypie. I used to be involved in the mortgage industry and the one thing that I consistently saw between those who are about to lose their homes and those who werent, was credit card debt. So many people believe the lie that says we are defined by what we own, rather than who we are. It is somehow easy to place your esteem in what you can acquire and what you own than to risk being vulnerable and showing the world who you are, only to then be rejected. That pain cuts to the core of us. This society sends very strong messages about where we get our worth from, and usually it Myers, Bunnings, Gainsbourough, etc. Its sad

Polanski wrote:So ppl after recently have this half drunk conversation with a lovely lady I thought I would post this to get to know you all better.
What really is your passions? Your dreams? Think hard, something you are not passive about but strive to complete and conquer. That desire that sets you on fire.
My fundamental passion that drives the three goals of my life is to see people come into a full sense of being, to be completely human, so fully and totally human in all its glory, attributes, uniqueness and limitations- being all we are created to be before we had to develop unhealthy ways of surviving pain and trauma, and unhealthy beliefs in order to make sense of our world.
This passion drives my goals of establishing a respite healing property (therapeutic clinic) for families that are broken, where they can come for free, and recieve intensive counselling, support, parenting skills, communication and conflict resolution skills, financial planning and nutritional advice etc. My aim is for them to develop a unique sense of family that reflects each individual and creates an enviroment that enables each person in that family unit to have their fundamental needs met.
My other goal is to contribute academically to theology by proposing an understanding of humanity that isn't debased, as often inferred in religion. There is a growing movement of making the church more relevant, as I believe that it currently is not, and understanding ourselves especially our suffering is a common point of reference for many to connect with.
Lastly, and this goal is what I am studying at the moment, is to design a psycho-physical therapy for people who suffer with dissociative disorders like "Dissociative Identity Disorder- MPD like in the story of Sybil". Dissociation is a defense many people use when their environment is painful or boring etc and involves 'daydreaming' to more serious states like amnesia and a sense of being outside of ones body.
My passion is to see people free to be fully human-body, mind and spirit

| | Dose God exist???? Posted: Jun 3, 2008, 12:50 AM EST |
Artythis wrote:This is a question i have asked myself time and time again. At one time in my life i used to beleive that God existed, whent to church, prayed but eventually i started to question alot of things likke why do's God allow humanity...his children to suffer?, i have asked this question time and time again and came up with no answer. I don't beleive in God any more but i still have great respect for those who do and wouldn't dream in interfearing with their beleifs. Anyways whats every bodies take on this?
Sometimes the question is not really about why does God allow suffering, but where the hell was he when I was suffering. It is a huge theological issue of theodicy 'why does a good God let bad things happen'. It is easier to say that God doesnt exist as a way of explaining this suffering, but humanism doesnt really explain the metaphysical issues of life (why were we created etc). We can also answer the question with God's soveriegnty but humanity's freewill in choosing to do the wrong things. But I have found no comfort in either of those positions. When I studied the book of Job, what was apparent is that a satisfactory answer wont resolve how we feel, but the experience of being heard and validated helps the most (for it is only time that finds the suffering coming to an end). It's like knowning that someone who we loved but was sufferring with cancer is finally at peace, having died, but knowning this fact doesnt take away our grief and pain over the loss. Nor does knowing why suffering happens. It is universal experience, we are all touched by it and because we have all been touched by it, some of us can offer comfort and walk with people who are currently suffering, just being there, loving and listening to them (Like Job's friends did before they opened their big mouths and tried to fix his problem. That is when they stopped being of any help to him, as do we). There are many wonderful things to be learned through suffering and it can produce a sweetness in a person that brings hope and strength and comfort to those who are suffering. The Buddhist's take on suffering is very interesting, it is about surrendering to the experience and growing from it. It is rather like a child who has to undergo a lot of operations because of a sickness. As you watch them you see firstly, their fighting against it (like our anger at suffering), then you see their acceptance and finally their surrender to it-painful operation (like accepting our own suffering), then you see a peace about them as they find comfort in the arms of parents who love them. This parent doesnt stop the pain their child is feeling, but somehow it helps when mum kissess the boo boo better. Our friends and families love and comfort helps, especially when they acknowlege our painful experiences. Im sorry I cant answer the question, but rest assured it is one that has has 1000's of years of debate about.
