ok.. I wanna increase my RAM.. at the moment I have 512mb.. and I want to increase by at least 1gb.. anyway.. I can buy some on this site i know of.. but.. Im not sure if the one they have will fit my computer..

the one Im looking at buying is this one

KINGSTON 1GB 800MHz DDR2 NON-ECC CL6 DIMM KVR800D2N6/1G

* 1 GB DDR2 (Double Data Rate) RAM
* PC2-6400
* 800 MHz
* 240-pin
* CAS Latency: 6 ns

mine is a generic computer.. about 6 yrs old..

what I wanna know.. is there a way for me to find out what I currently have on the computer without having to open up the hard drive and taking out the existing RAM?

Your not going to like this but your system is a bit too old for a memory upgrade. Its really not going to help that much.

Being 6 years old it would most likely take PC133 or SDRAM type, the ram your reffering to is for newer systems less than 2 years old.

The only real way to tell is open up the box and take out the RAM chip. Then you'll need someone to identify the type.

sorry

well I knew there was a BIG possibility I would have to open the hard drive.. but was wondering IF there was a way for me to find out by looking at the computer software stats that would have told me.. I don't like taking things apart.. means I have to be organised and put things in a certain place and sequence so they go back the right place ... all seems too long winded.. wanted an easier way laugh
