Hi all, I am new to all of this online dating stuff and I have taken an interest in these forums. There are a lot of interesting, funny and informative threads going on and I really appreciate everyone's opinion. In saying that though, I have to stress that it really irritates me when trying to read them that I get caught up in personal conversations that veer way off the agenda.

I am wondering why, the regulars especially, don't actually Instant Messenger each other rather than posting messages that have nothing to do with the topic at hand???

It becomes monotonous trying to read the posts because they become so long winded. I realise that this may offend some but I am a straight shooter so feel free to let rip if you feel the need!

This practice is generally called "Hijacking" a thread. It is something that tends to happen wherever there are boards like this one. Why?? because we can.

It's just the way it is, and many have complained about it before, yet it continues.

It doesn't bother me at all, and prefer to see people conversing about anything, even if it has nothing to do with the original topic. That is the whole idea of the forums here, to get people talking to each other.

If one is looking for more serious conversation about topics, then I'd suggest looking for forums that are dedicated to the subject, whatever that may be.

I agree.... and it doesn't bother me either.
Sometimes we all get off track and have a little fun but then realise what the thread is about and get back on track.

We don't mean to, it's just fun mucking around with people on here cos they are funny and I love reading some of the crap everyone (including myself, who gets off track sometimes) writes to each other, it gets quite hilarious sometimes and that's what it's all about..... having fun

i have turned off the im option as these as i am fed up with ego trippin, marriage starved or genital expoliting nutts pop up all the time. the option doesnt announce who you are accepting on im until after they have downloaded

and besides it is so much fun

1. the IM program on CS is shite!! too damn slow and as relaxin said.. you dont get a choice of who to talk to.. they just pop up ! hence why I have disabled mine

2. we are not always on at the same time so we can respond to posts at other times when we are on

3. we can talk to more than one person at the same time

4. the chat program on CS is also shite.. its in javascript so too damn hard to keep up with conversations and some of the people are just damn rude

You can get rid of the "personal conversation" posts by holding down the ALT key while hitting F4.

Bear in mind that if the regs weren't here annoying you with off-topic posts... then there would probably be about 2, or maybe even 3, new posts a week to read... now wouldn't that be an exciting forum?
