But like we in Government are always warned about e-mail. You can't tell what mood the other person is in when they read it. So while you might be in a joking mood, the other person might be having a crap day and take offence.

Not a big fan of text messages, and can't stand text speak. I've sent text messages but I take the time to use proper English instead of the mix of numbers and abbreviations.
I've sent messages back to people who do use text speak to rewrite and resend, or don't bother.

Nah seriously I agree very impersonal, has no emotion & can be misunderstood easily by both parties .The worst is when thats all you get text text & more Text no phone calls especially from a new person in your life .I make a point of saying im not into the whole texting unless its to say hey im on my way ....
My Kids both have phones & do ext but ive got them hooked up to free minutes so they can chat also .

well being s shift worker and as are most of my friends,, we never know if it is convenient to ring.. so texting suits us better.. Means we can still stay in touch to let each other know we are still alive and kicking.. just been too busy to call.. we still talk on the phone tho (for hours sometimes!! seeing how most of us live in different states!)

as for the more personal relationships.. yes its always nice to talk but sometimes its nice if you are both too busy to talk to receive or send a text that simply says.. "I love you " or "I miss you and can't wait to see you " or even better those downright dirty sexual ones that make you go

i cn b cht 2 ppl all day n get hps done, luv txt jokes. my son n i chat that way all the time. cn get confusing at x's but just call then.

I hate texting, you might as well have paid for a phone call by the time you text back and forth half a dozen times and you can't convey the same information with the appropriate emotion.
